Just checked, and 850rpm is what Ford states. Anyhow, at 1000+ a timing error is made very easily. This and the map hose not removed are the two most common timing faults both resulting in too little advance and poor performance. You will be amazed how many of the RSTs I have tuned actually have way too little advance even though the owner says that he has just set it to 12.
