Thats strange because they are made of a very rubbery type of plastic, doesn't seem brittle at all!

I don't like the idea of cutting it either, the edge of it is very big and bulky, and cutting it leaves not a lot of meat to make contact with the bolt.

Im guessing you have got a very heavy clutch in there?
