My wife drives a 2005 2.0TDCI Titanium, bought through Ford Direct 4k miles ago, which developed a misfire when hot and at idle. The dealership could find nothing causing it but did notice that on ours and two others in the forecourt that when the A/C was switched off the misfire stopped and then started again when it was switched back on. To me this indicated a fuelling problem but as nothing was picked up by the diagnostics a query has been sent to Ford.
On Saturday I decided to check the basics and when I pulled the air filter it looked as though it had been in the car for 50k miles, it is absolutely clogged, but the car has only done 16k.
The question is, the intake pipe on the new TDCI runs verically from the base of the filter box, across the chassis leg and then turns towards the back into a duct which I guess is behind the wheelarch cover. Has anyone else had problems with air filters clogging with what I can only guess as road dirt being sucked in from the wheelarch and is it onlt the TDCIs which have a rear facing intake duct.
It's in the hands of Ford to give me the same type of answers but I'm not holding my breath.
