How can a cam follower of such small size make a "knocking" noise similar to that of a worn bottom end.
i had a tappet not moving at all once, after i changed stem seals, the valve spring tool compressed the lifter and it didnt return itself, when i started it up that one tappet KNOCKED very loudly, i removed the rocker cover n removed that lifter and kept crushing the lifter back n fourth in a vice untill it free'd up again, put it back to together n it was silent again.
I know what you mean exactly, but i wouldnt say that was a knocking noise!

If your having problems with the top end i would inpect the oil ways on the head, and remove the lifters and soak them in some petrol or thinners, you'll find the oil inside seeps after not very long
after ive soaked them in petrol, il put them back in, shall i tip fresh oil onto them or will that not make a difference?
