The play that your on about that it say's it "should have" in the haynes maual you would hardly be able to notice it would be like half a mm - 1mm if that If theres anymore than that then id say your bearings fucked but that wouldn't cause it to knock just when you hit a bump as i said it would knock/rumble most of the time when you were driving.
