I don't really see a problem if it's been there since factory - but if it's been knocked out and put back then it could be dodgy!!

Of course you can't tell!!

It's obviously not something you want to chance. Doug's had outside influence(i.e. been out before) - I just want to get rid of the unsightly dizzy thats left behind redundant!!

I might have some solid rivets long enough at work. It would help greatly if the gear was splined onto the shaft then the torque wouldn't only be acting on the pin/rivet.

Something I may have to look into getting made, although if someone canes an engine with something you've made!!
