It sounds like that driver's speed was totally inappropriate to the road and conditions and they got bitten.
20mph is dangerous in the wrong place whilst 120mph can be perfectly safe in others.

end of the day if he had been travelling at 5mph then im sure they would be fine
innapropriate speed or excessive speed can and does kill...
just look at hammond, in reasonably safe circumstances and conditions but rolling at 200 odd mile an hour didn tdo him any good, suffice to say if he had been travelling at 50mph then he would have walked away!!!
