ther are two different types of anti theft systems on the mondeos that were bulit in 1997 and 1998 one passive and one active so my ford work shop manual says the passise is located under the dash behind the glove box more so up in the dash, the active one it doesnt give a location for this.

this is what it says to remove the passive one.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Module — Vehicles Built Up To: 05/1998 (336600)


Removal

All vehicles
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «Section 414-01».

Right-hand drive vehicles
2. Remove the instrument panel right hand side lower trim panel.

Left-hand drive vehicles
3. Remove the glove compartment.

All vehicles
µ 4. Detach the passive anti-theft system (PATS) module from the retaining bracket.

µ 5. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the PATS module.


Installation

1. Note:
When installing a new immobiliser (PATS) module, the red master key must be the first key used to start the engine.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
