Buy a car for about £500 quid from the auction - pref tax and tested such as a 1.8 mondeo. Run this as your daily runner, and use the cossie for the w/ends only!
This is an approach I have used exhaustively. May sound like a joke, but it will save you a butt load!!

tbh we used to use the cossie daily, but have just bought an escort gti to replace the series 2 as its cheaper to run, will prob only be using the Cossie on a weekend now
it is the best option, especially if you tend to only do short journeys
