maybe Stu should release his chip maps under a GNU license for the good of everyone
nah I don't think so, most people buy a PC with the O/S installed so the cost is hidden, Microsoft can be expensive don't I know it especially for internet based server software, but thats business!
People misunderstand the GNU licence at NO point does it state you have to give away your goods or skills at no cost, although many developers using this licence choose to do so... what it refers to is freedom to change and develop and modify an item to suit their own needs.
In this line of thought..... Microsoft and Sony have taken people to court who reprogram the Xbox and PS2 chips under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).... Considering that Stu could be said to be circumventing fords engine management settings, he could be prosecuted in the same manner.... so do you consider this appropriate, after all why would a company support exploitation of their copyright ECU program ?
