I went through my Vista and must have disabled at least half of the services, as well as all the Aero crap etc

To me it seems more stable than XP, although admittedly it doesn't have and noticeable extra features...

With the NTFS degradation thing, Vista automatically defrags once a week which shows they know how much of a problem it is.
