Usually, when the diff bearings wear out, the diff starts to move in directions it's not meant to. This will wear out the shaft oil seals and the plastic (red) speedo drive gear.
The speedo drive ger can be pulled out easily, so it's best to check tht first. If it's gone to a concave shape, then the bearings have definately gone.
