As for adding photos, do you mean digital camera type photos, or do you mean the album art that pops up when you play a song??
if you want to put digital cam photos on it etc, browse the ipod through my computer (I: or J: drive usually) and see if there is a photos or images folder. bang them in there and see if they display...worth a go. It's basially a mass storage device like a usb pen-drive so in theory they must be stored somewhere that your pc can read through explorer
EDIT- do the movies play with sound on your pc? seems to be some settings when ripping you need to use some specific settings or ipod to play it
