As far as i know the endura e used in the earlier Ka is based on the old kent/crossflow unit first seen when Anglias and the like roamed the streets. It just evolved with fuel injection and better head design etc. The main thing is though that the 1.3 endura-e is an 8 valve ohv engine. The later 1.3 and 1.6 duratecs are 8 valve sohc (completely different engine).
