I did this once, I went for an interview on a monday morning, and on the sunday my dad spotted a piece in the sunday paper business section, that said the company were subject to a takeover bid.

So I asked "is this likely to affect the position?"

Seemed like a reasonable question to me.

The interviewer went nuts! He threw his pen at the desk, lept out of his chair and went on a 10 minute rant about press speculation and how damaging it is to a business, and how totally unfounded it all was.

Needless to say, i didnt get the job, and 2 weeks later the company was re-named!
