usually installing mce 2005 is a pain in the ass..... did it many times...

what you need to know is that nothing works unless mce video drivers are installed as well as a dvd player (windvd or simmilar)

if i was you i would try the new vista premium windows, i was amazed how solid the mce part of it works. although not a big fan of vista as of now.....
