Not at all. It is a modification to allow for the thickness of the spacer. The stick is made up of an inner and outer. All you are doing is extending the outer part by about 40mm (I think) then re-pinning it in place. If you can make a new longer gearstick with the two balljoints on the end to use with the spacer then go ahead Dave.

For the price of the kit is a very worthwhile addition if you don't want to buy a B&M item. I had mine on the car for two years and never had a problem with it. Gear change was precise and smooth and a lot more solid than before...which was stirring porridge in comparison.
