Dont know if it helps, but my earths for the lights were complete gash, and they packed up completely.

Try taking a good earth point with fresh wire, and connecting directly to the earth of the lights - this will tell you if it is a bad earth.

9 out of 10 times, Ford wiring failures relate to bad earths.
