200k aint a lot for a vw engine though tbh, especcially if its got fsh, if it does have a ported polished head and some minor cam work should be a lot more pokey, though 1 thing with the 16v compared to the 8v is you have to give them some stick to get them going, 8vs are a lot more driveable around town, though still not very economical
£1500 for an oak green 16v isnt too bad imo, though they have lost a lot of money in the past 2yrs oak green ones are considerably more sought after than any colour, and 16v's fetch quite a bit more than the 8v anyway
id check suspension bed for any rot, and rear tailgate, they do tend to be a bit iffy idling with loadsa miles, but all in all a pretty solid car
polybushed on a decent suspension setup ( like mine ) will give you the edge over a lot newer cars round country roads, i managed to out corner an evo8 and subaru on the way to totb much to their annoyance, they are like go-karts on bends
