i had a mk2 before i got my s2, the 8v is very slow in comparison to 16v, the pre 90 spec had small bumpers, 90 spec and over had big bumpers, theyre prone for heater matrix problems, were recalled by vw due to the fault and most were fixed under warranty, good points are the handling, and theyre pretty solid, if you can get any id get the 16v, or try and get one with a 2.0 16v mk3 conversion if you want something a bit pokier.....

can pick em up really cheap now mind, but finding one with decent bodywork is pretty hard, tend to rust around tailgate and petrol cap
