newer engine, more power and better than the mi

Hmmm, YES and NO to some of that!

£2k will be a MINT 1.9Gti

My Mi16 died at National Day (after I killed the Cossie!), but I knew I had low oil pressure and ragged it anyway, my fault more than the car.

My bro's Mi16 has done Bedford, Combe 3 or 4 times, The Ring twice and National Day, plus he uses it every day to do a 80 commute. Still running fine on the original engine.

Gti 6 engine is good - 169 bhp IIRC, but AFAIK Gti6 brakes DON'T fit under standard 15 inch SMR / Speedlines. I saw an ad for them on Ebay and the guy was selling as he didn't want 16 inch wheels. I have 206 Gti 180 brakes on mine- the same as 307 HDis - fit SO tight, but work FAULTLESSLY.

how hard to fit the gti-6 engine, though i sure i'll be happy with the stock engine for a while

307hdi brakes??? they cheap??
Not sure on the Gti 6 engine fitting, but Mi is very simple. I THINK the Gti6 is similar fit, but personally not done it so not 100%.

The Gti 6 6speed box also fits onto 1.6 / 1.9 and Mi engines, but I believe you loose SOME right hand steering lock. IMHO the 1.6Gti gearbox is the best of the lot, tho some peeps mix and match the ratios.

307Hdi brakes - cheap enough new, but plenty from breakers, and should be cheap enough as they are "Nothing special" so to speak. Say you want GTi 6 brakes, think of a price and double it will be a breaker yard response!
