yes they can easily be welded and ground or machined back. I've done a couple for people.

the other option is a machined peg, drill and tap a small hole where the lug was and screw in a new one then machine it square.

not rocket science, just needs to be 4mm high and 4mm x 4mm square ( and conductive ( to trigger the sensor).
