long story but a mate of mine helped me wire in my rst loom to my mk5 escort , he ran the fuel pump relay power wire direct off a 80 amp auxilary fuse on the battery

sooooo - would running a live wire from the battery direct to the fuel relay cause it to burn the relay and fuel pump out ??? it also wasnt fused , it should be a 20a fuse ( which it is now )
just to clarify it went -
battery - fuel pump relay - fuel pump
it now goes -
ignition switch - 20a in line fuse - fuel pump relay - fuel pump
