Tone, it's just the same as mine does. Try de-glazing the pads. Easiest and cheapest option, see if that makes a difference.
I still reckon you should try some standard compound pads for the road. Not sure how much you could pick a set up for, but got to be worth a go. You might be pleasantly surprised. Remember that 330mm discs and 4-pots are WAY overkill for a sub 1000kg car, so there is no need for lairy pads.
Fit standard pads, then if you can make them fade, try going just one step up.
