it wont ignite, it makes a noise when you switch it on and off, but wont do anything other than that
Have a look, hopefully its Baxi, if it is most parts can be changed and is normally fixable without fitting a new boiler. Even if it isn't it may be fixable, just Baxis have lots of spares available and are easy to sort. A decent plumber will fix it rather than replace it, of course there are plenty that will do you over for a new boiler you don't need and then be kind enough to take yours away and make money on the parts too
