some of you will will remember from jap fest when my mate gave me the keys to his liner and let me loose in it round combe
but failed to tell me that he had put a stage 2 turbo on, a welding tip inline with the actuator to increase boost and the fact that the top end was rattling...
anyhow that little lot resulted in one dead engine
i got him a deal on some .05mm oversize pistons, and got all the machine work carried out etc.
he rebuilt it and we then put it back in the car.
this was in october.
anyway, i rang him today to see how it was going...
he has done 110 miles of running it it so far, and had it MOT'd
now monday morning last week, he was drving down the motorway doing 60mph he tells me as he has not driven any faster than that while running it in.
anyway, it cut out on him and he couldnt restart it. it ran perfectly before that
he says he has done a compression test on it, thy cylinder nearest the bulkhead has 100 odd psi, the rest have around 30psi
i dont know what the fook is wrong, i told him to chack the cam timing on it before doing anything else.
his dad reckons it cold be the rings? could this be the case?
he said there was NO smoke when it cut out, so i dont think its that tbh, but not got any other ideas really other than the timing.
we didnt check the head tho when it was apart, as the ring lands had broke off of 4 out of 6 pistons so we kind of gathered it was that which was fucked.
does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?
he still owes me £400 for the pistons
