Sadly there were several deaths in those years. Tovinen springs to mind in his S4.

However, it wasnt really the cars that were at fault. so much as spectator control. You've all seen the footage of Rohl in the Quattro caining through the spectators. And to be honest. Car design and occupant safety has improved dramatically in the last 20 years. So if thos accidents had happened today. 99% chance the crews would of walked away.
