Screamer pipes are, in my opinion a necessary evil on some cars, but as a last resort! If/when I ever go over to an external wastegate, I will most probably vent my dump-pipe into the main exhaust or fit a separate silencer. Anyone that wants one for novelty value has obviously never lived with one.
I spent alot of time altering my internally 'gated turbo to have a screamer pipe and what a waste of time it was. I just pisses you off on light throttle, when the wastegate is just open. Burbling away.
Also, as others have said, the sound that people describe as Turbo chatter is muffled by the metering head and can only really be heard by converting over to EFi, but please don't tell me that there are people out there that remove MFi and convert to EFI just so that they can hear chatter??!!
