With no cams, you can tell the valves when to open at ANY rpm point. This means you have the PERFECT valve opening point at EVERY single RPM point. Obviously means the engine is efficient at EVERY point as it would be at it's BEST point with cams... More power, everywhere (apart from it's original peak) and better fuel efficiency .
