Default Bl**dy Lambda sensors

Right

I was going to blame lousy parts, but now two have failed (are failing) in slightly different ways...

I had a narrow band lambda sensor that worked for a while, then would give stupid readings (very very lean) after a while. Readings were false btw, else engine would be dead.

Replace with proper wide band, and today looking at the gauge, it was holding 14.3 afr. Obviously wrong, as when I nailed it and released the throttle, it stayed put!

Doesnt always do it, but struggling to believe that two diff sensors have failed in such wierd and similar ways.

Car does smoke a little on overrun (it is a cossie, after all) - is this affecting the sensors?

Lambda sensor is fitted to downpipe approx 4 inches back from flange.

Getting really pissed off with it.

Help?
