Default Puma timing belt gone, told i need a new engine

My V reg puma 1.7 ground to a halt yesterday and after replacing the timing belt the ford dealer has told me that the 1st cylinder isnt firing so i need a complete engine replacement which will cost me £2500!

I've never been in this situation before, can anyone advise a course of action, should i get the engine replaced, or try and sell the car to someone who can do the work? Should it really cost me £2500, im a bit shell shocked at the moment and dont really know what to do

thanks for any advice

Andy
