The 12 position boost pot is NOT designed to give you 12 positions of boost control people.
It was designed so to stay in the MIDDLE so that racers could adjust the boost to suit different atmospheric and humidity levels around the world. Nothing really silly about it when used for its intended purpose.
Indeed, just a waste of time in a road car.
