Except that the comparison you're making is flawed.
Got to a lot of middle eastern countries, and it will probably be a single faith based society, or at least based around religionjs of a similar belief.
This country? You really think, in 2006, this is a still a Christian country, that has a faith by which most people should abide? We are mutli-cultural, and all the better for it, so we are in the position to be more accepting of others.
The point that people have made that is valid, is that we have no problem accepting other religions and faiths, but it is when those people use our acceptance againist us, that is what pisses people off.
Unfortunately, there is also a large undercurrent of ignorant lower and middle class scum in this country, who just want to, and I quote, "ban the little paki in the body dress".
What surprises me the most though, is why people are shocked that other religions often don't want to integrate. If you got shouted, taunted, and abused for wearing a veil, turban, or other such piece of religious dress, would you want to spend time around people who did that?
