I think it's a typical case of give and take.
As Rich says there's no rules against wearing viels. However Jack Straw has explained his problems with viels and admire that.
Now what we should have hear is some common respect and understanding but like a lot of other tales in this area peoples guards are going up.
We need to respect peoples religous views, after all it's their right, however at the same time people (including ourselves) need to respect our nationalities fundemental social backgrounds. So in some respects that may come back to how we dress, speak and communicate.
The goes for spitting on the floor and swearing in public as much as it goes for wearing viels or not being able to walk through metal detectors.
