They usually burn out the switch or the heater resistor next to the drivers headlamp (a thing with loads of coil windings in it).
If it's the resistor it will only work on speed 3. If it's the switch, it won't work at all.
M8 i got an N plate transit and theses things can go for a pastime
I'm sure there no more than £15 they reduce the voltage i think so you get the 3 speeds on the blower
thats why normally when they go the fastest speed is fine as im sure thats the full 12 v
