They usually burn out the switch or the heater resistor next to the drivers headlamp (a thing with loads of coil windings in it).
If it's the resistor it will only work on speed 3. If it's the switch, it won't work at all.
DazC how much is a replacment resistor? as mine does that and have never bothered to change it in 3 yrs
