Mark, I am only going to say this once.....

AVOID THE FUCKING IVECO LIKE THE PLAGUE

I recently inspected a 54 plate 4 tonner. Off the top of my head, this is the list of defects that can be attributed to wear and tear/defects and not driver abuse.

Front ARB bushes worn on both sides.
Rear ARB D bushes worn.
Rear ARB link rod bushes top and bottom worn.
N/S head lamp poor beam pattern.
N/S main beam inop.
N/S side lamp inop.
N/S brake light inop.
O/S tail lamp inop.
No plate lamps inop.
Brake pad wear warning lamp on (pads not worn).
Horn inop.
Cab door latches insecure.
Propshaft bolts loose.
Bellhousing bolts loose/missing.
ABS warning lamp on all the time.
Minor oil leak from diff pinion flange.
Minor oil leak from diff pan.

There was more faults on it but they were things like cracked mirors, cracked screen, cut sidewalls etc.

Dash is cheap and flimsy as fook. The engine is basically the exact same engine from the old one but modified to run a common rail system. Clutch slave cylinders are common and the odd gear change cable every so often. The detent on the likages go fooked so the lever never self centres to 3rd and 4th. They can develop a starting issue where by they will just crank and crank and crank and then suddenly fire after you have flattened the battery then thrown a set of jump leads on it as if nothing was ever wrong.

Other than that, yeah not a bad van!!!

LT's are a bit under developed. They seemed to stop any mid life development and everyone else just left them behind up until the new model. The engines always seem to be ok when they are running well but turn to shit when they want to go wrong. I have rebuilt a few of them in the past. Not too bad to do.

I had an oil leak on one from the front crank oil seal. To change it, I had to remove the box to get at 2 bolts in the bell housing to get the sump off to get the oil pump off the front of the engine (the casing had 3 lips on it to stop you drawing the seal out of the front). They may have changed that now though. They still use the old Mk1 Sprinter dash. They also suffer the Srinter door problems (dropping off, check straps breaking, latches bouncing).

The Sprinter Mk2 has a better interior (in my opinion) than the old Mk1 and LT. Not sure about the engines though. We recently had a few in that had set on fire on top of the engine (not electrical). The top of the engine fills up with a black sludge under the sound proofing!! I have also known the injector seal seat errode away in the head and then leak compression past the injector.

We have had the odd starter stay in mesh due to an electrical fault too. Also had a couple of ECU failures preventing the starter relay from working under the drivers seat (easy to bridge out when you know about it).

That is all I can think of off the top of my head.
