you have to drop the old stick and linkage out and just replace a couple of plastic bushes inside the mechanism, so it has to come off the car but this aint difficult. Make sure you take it apart very slowly so nothing breaks then you can see how to put the new bits in. Be sure to adjust the linkage correctly on refitting because that is the most important thing.
