I've driven loads and i had to get my mother 1 as she like both the golf and the new Polo.

She tested loads of them and the 1.9 tdi was the only option in the end and she ended up paying £6500 for one like this below:

If it was for your dad aswel then maybe the Golf - but the polo has truely moved on and is near enough the same size:
