What did you think of the car?
It was surprisingly fast. Didn't feel that but when checked against stop-clock it shows to be really fast. Feels a bit heavy but does everything what I like it to do. It's very reassuring. I never made more then 20 miles in it altogether so it's quite easy tolearn as you can see. A bit to nervous in tarmac mode in this conditions was very controlable in gravel mode. Small and quick opposite lock input counters rear end steping out in corner exit with ease. Corner entry understeer is even smaller then I expected in those conditions, absolutely none detected on dry tarmac road later that day. ABS brakes are absolute rubbish in this conditions and from what I know impossible to disconnect - shame, but pretty typical on newer cars. I really hate ABS, what is it for on sports-cars? Reacts nicely to left foot braking even with ABS though. Great car, although I don't know if it's good for learning - it handles far too easy and gives a lot of confidence to begginer, can be lethal with big mistake though. The owner nearly crashed it when he lifted off and gave it a bit too much opposite lock at the same time.
I tried it later on road (just small bit) and it has verynice ride, although I would say this MR Bilstin equipped verion is a bit too soft at very high speeds on tarmac, read end especially seams a bit unstable at 200+kph, in rallycross track conditions suspention is just perfect.
Oh by the way - this was non - AYC car, only equipped with ACD and plated rear diff instead of AYC. (US-spec car)
Were you applying the handbrake to initiate the slides?
Handbrake? Absolutely no, what for? The Evo has a lot oversteer, just a small bit to much in slippery conditions like this - too much for speed I mean. Not something that I would fight in road car though, just perfect, in raly-car this would have to go.
By the way - handbrake is rubbish, at elast on this one - used it once to save situation after overspeeding into corner and there was hardly any effect. I must have my mate who owns the car check if it function correctly or maybe needs adjustment.
