it all depends on the application. If its only a street car, a copy of a TiAL or HKS would be sufficent. Just make sure the valve seats properly or else you'll have a leaky watsegate. If your running lots of boost, racing and/or have hight exhaust temps, an 'expensive' one is your only option.
The extra price you pay for is for superior meterials such as inconnel valves.
Intially Turbosmart ones bent valves with high exhuast temps. I've seen this happen first hand at least 3 times and I also heard Brom had problems with his. Having said this, I understand they have rectified this problem and its popularity is a good indicator of the good price/performance you get from Turbosmart.
I've used a TiAL previously and I reckon they would have to be one of the best made wastegates out there. I currently have a 50mm HKS GTII wastegate that I'd highly recommend, but not for your wallet!!
