Indeed, but most people who lower their CR by machining the pistons have the sense not to skim them and to just take the metal out the centre on a lathe where it doesnt effect squish.

Main problem with a decompression plate is its another potential point of failure and unlike a gasket doesnt have a properly designed fire ring round the bores.

Thickker gasket would be a more sturdy option than a decomp plate as it will seal better.
