before i fit used lifters (of a know quantity ) i wil always remove all the oil by compressing the lifter until its spongy anyway , then i will fit them to the engine and let the engine fill them back up , that way i know theres no shit or old engine oil in them from their previous use , yes they rattle alot when 1st started , but within minutes they are all usually quiet. i never reuse HLA's without squeezing them out 1st , ive had to many engines prior to this method that have had no compression because the lifters have expanded too much whilst out holding the valves open !!
