Because the readings for various functions are written to a flash rom and the rom needs to be blanked by a specific command/routine. Out of interest to you cossie boys, The P8 is the same.
So when you key-on and the ECU see's a particular pin high/low (thanks to removing the fuse), it branches out and performs some erasing sub?
In some cases yes, but most of the time its far better to just use the reset function in the software, accesed by the relevant serial protocol on your ecu scanner. On the aforeetioned P8 eh feature is accessed by bridging three female sockets near the battery on powerup. we also have some software to do it on the new IAW monitors.
