As Oranoco has said on later fiesta's the hole was enlarged for this purpose.

The only time i would ever consider cutting the floor to do this is with the tank off anyway, to make a nice neat job of it and to properly paint it all after.......anyone that attempts to hack away at metal with power tools above a petrol tank is clearly not a deep thinker
