Steve, Gary had electric power-steering on his S13 and I think he regretted it. As far as I rememeber he found it slow to respond and very often had it turned off.

I think it came off a Peugeot, or similar, so probably the same as what you have been looking at.

The hoses really need to be ones made for Power-steering. They are not too expensive.
