1) for a start a L8 is more reliable than a P8 in the first place.

2) another advantage is that the majority of cossies sold had L8 ecu's to start with, so upgrading your existing ecu with this conversion gives you extra features over a full spec P8 for around the same cost.

3) apart from all the mapping features, the software provided with this conversion also includes the diagnostic, scoping and datalogging features that Stu has for sale separately plus the ability to test the engines sensors and actuators (idle valve, fuel pump, Amal valve etc).

the ecu is given a full test to check it's condition and can be proffesionally repaired as necessary. can you say that about a secondhand P8 that you buy? why should the ecu die? it's a solid state device that provided it isn't overloaded in any way should be very reliable.

don't forget that these ecu's are engineered for OEM applications in the first place, not just some aftermarket things that someone cobbles together in a shed. they have designed in reliability from many years of experience. motorsport components do not necessarily have that as they do not have to last for many years over hundreds of thousands of miles over many types of road surface etc.
