thats quite common and will of course lead to it sound like its leaking.
the springs aint that hard in the m either so will be ok to open, just cover it so it dont blast accross the room

Considering you work for a Ford magazine, I would have thought it your duty to know that the Bailey dump valves are of the piston variety and don't have a diaphram

Anyway, RH, if you run the dumpvalve on the hot side of the intercooler, it could be sticking due to the piston expanding with the heat it is seeing (especially if the dump valve is a few years old), as it is a known problem on the early ones that went to hot climates where ACTs were high. The material of the piston has recently been upgraded to prevent this
