When did you turn 20? When you're 21 you get more leniency regarding points entry from unis as you're classed mature. What you have already might be enough for certain courses at some universities anyway. If you're going to do it then just go to uni and do a course you like and will get on with, don't bother finishing the A levels, especially as you want to crack on in employment. 3 years will be bad enough.

Might as well do it now whilst you're young instead of getting more pissed off down the line. IMO a child should not be brought into the world unless you are stable yourself and can provide well. Don't get too attached to the mrs and her requests, it may not last forever and you will meet loads of women at uni. (sorry to be harsh) Get applying, doesn't hurt to do that at least.
