Hydraulic brakes with auxillary cable are however accepted.

Hydraulic h/b's that even click and lock will still fail at any decent MOT station. They all lose pressure as the fluid cools and your car merrily rolls off down the hill. I have seen this happen SOOOOO many times to rally cars in over night parc ferme its comical - until one hits your car

Find a friendly MOT station

That is indeed the totally correct information

Depending on the tester it will probably pass, but its acutally a very bad idea to be purely hydraulic becuase you have to remember to leave it in gear if you dont want it to roll away when you have had the fluid warm before you parked up.

I used to get my secretary pop into my office when i took my nova in and say "umm, excuse me sir, your funny little car has rolled across the carpark again and this time it is only 2 feet from the MD's ferrari, i think it might be best if you move it"

Ive been thinking about putting a spring loading mechanism on the actual level itself that pushes onto the master cylinder, so that when it cools the spring takes up the slack.
